Processing Info
Hundreds of tons of fruit are processed daily during the harvest season. The fruit coming from company plantations as well as from independent farms from across the Northern Zone of the country is carefully selected and stored in processing silos after a preliminary culling of unacceptable fruit. It is then thoroughly washed and given a final culling prior to entering into juice extraction and on processing.
The fruit goes to the extractors to separate juice from the rind and pulp. After further purification, the juice goes to the evaporators to extract excess water and produce juice concentrate. In the filling chamber, the concentrate is packaged into drums or bins and then refrigerated at -18 ºC in the cold stores. The drums or bins are then loaded into reefer containers for exportation to overseas markets.
Exportation
Presently, Del Oro is exporting pasteurized and concentrated orange and pineapple juice to the following markets: The United States, The European Union, Japan, Puerto Rico, The Dominican Republic, Belize and Jamaica. As well as developing a solid presence in the domestic market here in Costa Rica.
Research And Development

In 2004, the company invested an incremental $4 million and expanded its industrial plant to essentially twice its former capacity, adding a second evaporator ( 80,000 lb. / hour capacity ), a second orange discharge line, and a second orange extraction line with related equipment.
This increased Del Oro S.A. orange extraction capacity by 75% and gave the company three times its previous evaporation capacity for the production of juice concentrates. The company also greatly upgraded the pineapple reception facility and added a third cold storage room.
In 2005, the company is adding a second pasteurizer and extraction facilities for exotic tropical fruits such as Passion Fruit.
All of these investments give greatly enhanced flexibility to the plant, such as allowing the processing of oranges and pineapple simultaneously.
